Joel Schat is a content creator based out of Vancouver, making videos about the outdoors, travel, and adventures. After he spent some time experiencing Portfolio, we sat down with him to get his thoughts on how the program fits into his lifestyle.
PORTFOLIO: What have you been enjoying so far about your Portfolio membership?
JOEL SCHAT: I enjoyed the ability to try many different brands of cars in a short period of time. It allows me to understand the key features and the general experience that each brand offers and compare them. Another great, practical feature is the concierge. Being able to flip cars at the end of a work day and drive home in a different vehicle is something special!

How has your membership surprised you or surpassed your expectations?
JOEL: Portfolio surpassed my expectations with the level of cleanliness and overall detail that goes into the service. Typical car subscription or car share programs can be very hit-or-miss in regards to the overall cleanliness and newness of the cars. With Portfolio, each car still feels like it’s brand new and just driven off the lot when it is delivered to me.
What kinds of vehicle features are important to you personally?
JOEL: The most important aspect of a vehicle — for me — is the technology in the car that provides innovative features and a progressive driving experience. For example, I love the Mercedes-Benz HOLD brake function, where you hard-press on the break to hold it at a stop. I’m also a big fan of the lane assist and other driving assistance features on the Portfolio vehicles.

Tell us about your first Portfolio car flip experience? What was your initial reaction?
JOEL: “Is this real life?” I honestly couldn’t quite believe how simple and easy it was to have the first car flip arrive at my front door on my own schedule. There wasn’t a sales process or complicated sign-up system, just the concierge handing me the keys to my car.
Tell us about how you’ve matched your flips to your lifestyle so far.
JOEL: One particular week, I planned to use my flips for a couple of things I had going on. I wanted to start the week out strong so I flipped into an Audi on Monday for my workweek commute. Then my next flip was into a Genesis for the weekend. This car made me feel younger so it was perfect for the date I had planned.
